This course will be a study of cultures from around the world. Students will learn about the ancient cultures of Egypt, China, and Greece through games and art. We will play games such as Jenga from Ghana, Mancala from Egypt, and Chinese checkers from Germany-who knew? We will cover Isreal and learn to play the Dreidel game, a holiday tradition. They will learn to play hopscotch and jacks from England. We will even have a spot of tea. We will draw the Eiffel Tower from France, and make an Italian opera mask. We may learn a few Spanish words, and write some Chinese symbols. If they choose, they can even make a T-shirt with an ancient or cultural symbol on it. They will decorate Australian boomerangs, Mexican maracas, and American tote bags (to keep all the creations of the week.) All of the lessons will be supported with geographical information as students will use maps and atlases to explore our world.
Students will be participating in a daily Readers Theater. They will be given scripts and be creating the characters in the form of puppets and make backgrounds for the stories. This program is to help children with their phonics, decoding, and vocabulary and reading skills.
We will embark on a summertime journey focusing and enhancing key skills such as reading, writing, social development through hands on learning, creative arts, and outdoor play! This program aims to build a love of learning and help children build friendships and teamwork. This program will also provide structured learning and fun play while keeping children engaged in learning.
Prepare for takeoff! Send your child on a virtual trip this summer exploring various places around the world! Through English Language Arts, music, and art we will experience cultures from the beautiful islands of Hawaii to Ancient China! Students will learn to play ukuleles and African drums, create Chinese lanterns, learn dances, (and more) and develop a Google Slides presentation about their experiences. We can't wait to take this adventure with your student!
